Interesting things happen

Thanksgiving weekend comes and renovation comes and you're too busy to get much done. I lost most access to my constructing computer (I just didn't feel like kicking off my sis) so not much progress there. I did start a level though with some coolio challenges.

Jeff made a beginner level too, and I gotta say, it looks pretty sweet.

... mm that's it really. Not enough time to do stuff, I guess. Look out for more stuff this week!

Today just keeps getting better

...actually yesterday, but it was too late to blog so yeah. Something totally awesome just happened to me and I'm eager to share it.

It was December 31, 2011, at 10:00 PM. I was rushing to get this level done so I could make a last-minute entry for Level of the Year.

Unfortunately, I couldn't complete the level on-time, as I kept feeling urged to extend the level. I guess it was alright, since LotY was a fail anyway.

About a month later I decided to fix it up and release it. The level seemed to disappear off my computer.

Throughout the course of a whole year, I did at least 5 full-computer searches to find the .csx of this long lost level. It was nowhere to be found.

However, just this night, I was scrolling through my Interiors folder, looking back at old levels I made. I came across a file titled "CC.csx" I would normally ignore this, as there was a level abbreviated CC already in the game. This time, I opened it. The beautiful level I made a year ago was there! I couldn't believe my eyes!

I fixed up the level, and converted the textures into Elite ones (which was way easier that I expected) and I was totally not expecting the level to convert properly, as there were little curvies everywhere. So that was pretty awesome.

The interior was loaded into the game. As I was placing items/messing around, I triggered a moving platform that I COMPLETELY forgot about. I was as surprised as heck. Moving platforms work 5% of the time for me, but a year old one? Wow.

Best Elite work day ever. Like, really.

Beginner levels are fun

Don't you just love that awesome moment where a level converts fine, plays fine, and is just 100% fine? I've been feeling that recently, because I made a nice beginner level.

The level started with a basic idea, which I expanded upon. The level only took around 3-4 hours to build (I wasn't rushing, it's just short) so I didn't get impatient with myself.

Of course, I got no conversion problems (woohoo!) and it was easy to place items and such. I also added nice scenery and stuff (really simple, but adds a nice touch) and the level is pretty much finished.

A weird topic to blog on, but I just wanted to share one of these rare and awesome moments; nothing went wrong. At all. And I'm loving it.

Lazy Monday + New Staff Member?

Without school tomorrow, today was a lazy day. Actually, my entire afternoon was devoted to make a fancy sig for the Paint.NET forums. Works for me.

Currently I'm in contact with RandomGuy14, who is returning to the Marble Blast Community. He's a level builder in training. I've been giving him all sorts of tips and tricks (well, sort of, 95.7% of it is messing around with marble physics) and hopefully he can become one of Elite's regular level builders. He's got a ways to go, but when the time comes, the Elite team will be more than happy to welcome him on to the crew.

So, any updates? Absolutely! Got a TON done today... one texture!

..ok, maybe like almost nothing done today. Oh well, I've got no school tomorrow (finally, a good side of the presidential election!) so maybe I'll get summore stuff done. My room is being renovated, so maybe.

That was a short update, but whoopadoopafloop.

No one notices, but it has to be done anyway

Today was one of those days where you get a ton done but it's hard to tell.
Without internet connection on my 7 (which I use for everything not speedrunning/Constructor) I was fixing up little stuff, such as grammar mistakes, misalignments, etc. Later I spent my time fixing some graphics. By the end of the day, Elite was filled with prettier gems, shiny pause menus, and improvements of textures that should've been changed a looooong time ago.

The only frustration I had (which was thankfully a small one) was that I had made a pretty glow_bounce texture, but in-game it looked smaller than the marble, and a bit squigglier than it should be. It was all the same size and everything, so... what the heck? No clue what went wrong there, so I set that aside for another day. Maybe Master Jeffio knows the solution!

Hopefully I can rid of all cooltext.com graphics sometime soon. That's right, I previously used generated graphics from cooltext.com, quite constantly in fact. I seriously regret using it in the first place. It's not that it's illegal, cooltext allows their graphics to be used in any way, commercial or noncommercial. However, I am ashamed of myself for being that lazy to take graphics from other places than to learn to make my own. Now that I have some decent Paint.NET skills, I have started a quest to replace those cruddy cooltexts.

All that aside, I got a lot done today, so I'm satisfied with myself. It had to be done anyway, so why not today?
Hey, not a bad inspiring quote.

Oh hey, Monday is tomorrow. I'm going to make it epicly awesome, which is something that a lot of people can't do. Woohoo!

Let's get the ball rolling

I'm going to kick this off with a quick overview of what happened today.  Some of it is kinda interesting.

I spent the whole day (with the exception of the few hours I ate/did chores) working on my latest level. It started out with a retexture from Marble Blast Platinum (as the level was originally made for it) which was an annoying process of retexturing, resizing, fixing old stuff, yada yada.  By then I was so tired of it that I tried a different trimming technique that made life easier.

So I converted the level, just to get that annoying lightmap error.  I had a humugous brush in there, I split it into multiple parts and it still wouldn't work.  I ended up resizing this to make it 4x smaller and resized it ingame.  It looks a bit dark, but oh well.

Of course, when I did convert it, there was a ton of texturing errors that were too annoying to leave alone, so I fixed those and adjusted a few other parts.  When that was done, I suddenly felt the need to extend the level to make it mid-advanced (was originally early-intermediate) so I did.  Surprisingly, I had a lot of fun.

When all that was done I finally converted it.  Bam, vislink error. Blah.

When I SPLIT THE MAP and converted it looked like a big mess of peices, which later I discovered that I stupidly placed the same interior three times in the same location.

All that fixed, I began the usual LE work and while screwing around I found that two of the challenges were impossible/close to impossible.  Since I already had the map split, I decided to keep what I had and cleverly place interiors so the challenges were easier.  Woo, it worked.

So, by the end of the day, I had finished a fairly long and sexy level.  Aside from scenery and help triggers, this level is DONE.  It was difficult, but in the end, the result was TOTALLY worth it.

It looks like I refound my inspiration to work. :)
